Waiting for the child

Tranquille attente was born of a moment of rare intensity in my life: the final weeks before the arrival of my first child.
I was living in that suspended phase when each day seems both too long and too short.
When will my child arrive? How is it going to happen?
In this vacillation between doubt and wonder, one certainty remained: I was quietly waiting for him.
This sculpture still retains a vivid memory of that moment, as if it were yesterday.

In the soft light of morning, she stands, peaceful and silent.
Her full form, her enveloping posture evoke this unique period: a body inhabited, a heart on the alert, a soul on watch.
She speaks of the calm before the encounter, of this peace imbued with impatience when everything in oneself prepares to welcome life.

The figure seems to listen to its own breath. Its round lines embrace the slowness of the body that carries and protects.
Tranquille attente embodies the absolute trust of the living – that instinctive, ancient knowledge that unites mother and child even before the first glance.

The softness of a body on standby

Produced in a dark clay with warm reflections, the sculpture reads like a caress.
The silky, deep patina makes the light vibrate on its curves.
The warmth of fire and the density of the material are revealed, but also an astonishing lightness: that of silence, of breath, of time stretching out.

She says nothing, yet everything is there: balance, listening, the quiet strength of love to come.
Anchored in the earth, and already looking towards birth, she seems to float in that in-between time when the world is preparing to change.

Waiting as a creative space

In Tranquille attente, waiting is not emptiness: it is plenitude.
A fertile space, a vibrant interior where life and the transformation of being are woven together.
The sculpture is not only about motherhood; it also evokes the birth of everything that requires patience, trust and slowness.

Every new life – whether a child, a project or an intimate rebirth – requires this interval of silence, this fertile immobility where the world is woven anew.
My sculpture keeps track of this, like an immobile prayer.
It invites us to slow down, to breathe, to tune into the deep rhythm of life.
